Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Het begon in 1978 met een nieuwsbrief, waarin advocaat Robert Parker ten behoeve van de consument een onafhankelijke, kritische bespreking van wijnen gaf. Begin jaren tachtig begon zijn nieuwsbrief wereldwijd aandacht te trekken en groeide uit tot de zeer beroemde Wine Advocate.

Parker hanteerde bij de beoordeling van de wijnen een door hemzelf ontworpen puntensysteem op een schaal van 100 – de befaamde Parker Points – waarbij eigenlijk alleen de wijnen met meer dan 90 punten ertoe doen.

Parkers invloed op de wijnindustrie was en is enorm. In 2012 trok hij zich terug uit The Wine Advocate en werd als hoofdredacteur opgevolgd door Lisa Perrotti-Brown.
